Nobody Tagged Me, But...

I'm responding anyway. I saw these questions on a 2 month old post on someone else's blog and thought they were refreshingly different from the usual ones. So I'm answering them anyway!

1. What was I doing ten years ago?

Ten years ago, I was living in Colorado and working in the Denver Tech Center, 57 miles from my mountain home, and making a ton of money. It was fun but that was then.

2. List five things on today's to-so list.

  • Call the vet
  • Mail some packages
  • Clean off my worktable (OK, so that is a multi-day job; I'll clean off more space to work there then.)
  • Wash my hair
  • Have dinner with the Sports Fan and the MINI club for International Food Night

3. List five favorite snacks.

  1. Nearly any cheese in nearly any form
  2. Cookies (aka bisquits in the UK)
  3. Chocolate!
  4. Apples
  5. Fresh Cherries (I had some yummy cherries last night. I enjoy pulling them off the stem and chewing around the pits before I spit them out!)

4. Things I'd do if I was a billionaire.

I'd Do Some Good

Animal Welfare: I'd get laws passed! I'd make every shelter a no-kill shelter. I would give them all money to build runs and comfortable enclosures for the animals to live in until they could be adopted. I'd educate people about animals and how to care for them. (And hope it would carry through to caring for their children and other family members!) I'd make it VERY expensive to have a license to have a non-spayed or neutered dog or cat. I'd have lots of educational programs to teach people how to treat their pets well and about being kind to animals. And one to take animals to all schools and nursing homes for visits.

I'd make nearly any form of animal cruelty dangerously illegal. It is so horrible. Why doesn't it carry a death penalty? If people will do all sorts of awful things to a poor animal, do you imagine that they'll stop at harming people? I'd first go after anyone who runs a puppy mill and make sure that they suffer the same life as the animals they torture. If you buy a puppy from a pet store, that's where they come from.

I'd make the AKC change their ways as I believe that their program of registering dogs is partly responsible for idiot backyard breeders and the overbreeding of so many breeds of dogs by people who are thrilled that their Golden bitch will have 6 to 12 puppies per litter and count the poor things by $300 increments as they come out. I'd make it illegal to advertise puppies and kittens for sale unless you have a breeders license that you can only get by getting a degree in animal husbandry!

More on that vein, but I get too upset thinking about it and you get the idea without needing to read the details. Oh and I'd set up scholarships for vets so that they'd get their schooling paid for by working in a free clinic for a few years after they graduate. The free clinics would be for health care for poor people's pets.

I'd Have Some Fun

The Sports Fan and I would have a fun time traveling, doing and seeing things we have always wanted to see and do. We'd go to every motor museum in the world. We'd have the Nürburgring to ourselves and an assortment of fun vehicles to race around it for a day. We'd have to take some friends who enjoy that too. It would be fun to drive CoopahS round it several times with the rest of the Rat Pack in the rear view mirror! We'd go to every major league ball park in North America and have seats right behind first base, or just beyond that. It's the best place to watch the game, I think!

I'd go to every art retreat in the US in one year and take a couple of friends with me.

I'd build a humongous log house on top of a mountain in Colorado and have fabulous play areas for me and the Sports Fan. He would get a twisty miles long paved road just for driving or riding his toys with his friends and a humongous garage full of tools and gadgets and lifts. My part of the house would have rooms for painting, print-making and bookbinding, sewing and embroidery, and a big room for having friends over to take classes together or to come play for the weekend.

We'd have a private plane so that we could go to any of our homes (or anywhere else!) anytime we like and take all of the dogs with us. And we'd have more dogs. We could sleep on the way there and then have more time for having fun while we're there.

I'd have a butler's pantry with enough stuff to make Martha Stewart envious!

I'd have a fabulous library of books to read. Fiction, non-fiction, how-to, all kinds of books. It would be hard to find a book that didn't interest me in some way.

I'd support artists by buying lots of art.

We'd have a chef who only made just enough of the foods we like for one meal without over-eating and in a way that is good for us. We'd have personal trainers who would come get us and make us exercise in the afternoon. Somebody would wake us up in the morning and get us to get going so we could get more done. And yes, they'd give me one little can of ice cold Mountain Dew to get my brain started! (If you follow that link,m OMG, does this person have the right idea about Dew or what!?!????)

5. List five places I've lived.

  1. Wexford, Pennsylvania
  2. Athens, Georgia
  3. Dayton, Ohio
  4. Phoenix, Arizona
  5. Bailey, Colorado - This is the one I love the best though they all have specials places in my heart. Yeah, even the HOT place does!

6. List some people I'd like to know more about.

I'd like to know more about nearly everyone. Maybe that's why I love to read biographies? Winston Churchill (though I already know quite a bit about him), Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer (my favorite author), people who do embroidery, fiber arts, and paper arts - that would be why I read blogs!

So since nobody tagged me to do this, why don't you tag yourself if you want to and then leave a comment here to let us know so that we can see what you came up with.

I answered the questions and put them on my blog too. There are one or two similarities between us - chocolate and animal welfare to name but two ;o)
